He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lee Carethers, Sr. and Elizabeth Lynch Carethers; his mother-in-law Ila Phillips Wilson Moore; his brothers, James Lee Carethers Jr. and John W. Carethers; his brother-in-law Isaiah "Bill" Gwynn, Jr.; and his grandson Keshaun Carethers.
He is survived by: his wife Veronica Lake Moore Carethers; his children, Tanya Carethers and Antwone Carethers; his grandchildren, Altavian Carethers, Nasir Vance, Antwone Vance, Tenasia Carethers and Sevyn Vance; his siblings, Harry Carethers (Mae), Annie Caldwell, Mary Hopkins (Freddie) and Betty Johnson; his siblings-in-law, Freddie Hopkins, Carl Patrick, Mae Carethers, Deaconess Maxine Gwynn and Alfreda Patrick (Carl); his godchildren, Anthony Mosley (Sharetta), Jair Smith and Sydney A. Dowd-Smith; his cousin Robert Lynch (Deatra); and also, Trina Mack, LaMonica Agnew Small, Aisha Jones and Sonya Watson. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews.
Viewing was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Russell Funeral Home (822 Carl Russell Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). Visitation was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Matthew Apostolic Temple Church of Jesus Christ (3640 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105). A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
