With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Helen Ray (Winston Salem, North Carolina), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Helen left this world on June 12, 2025 at the age of 86, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, Elonis Johnson and Lucille Johnson; her children, Stephen, Walter, Jr. and Erica Dooley; and her siblings, Robert, Willie, Johnny Johnson and Mae Rodriguez.
She is survived by: her husband Walter Ray; her siblings, McKinley Johnson of Delray Beach, FL, Bertha Tyler of Blacksville, SC, Liz Wilson of Jamaica, NY and Betty Matthews of Orangeburg, SC; her grandchildren, Ronnell, Samantha, Tyrke, Tyrell Ray of Queens, NY, Jessica Phoenix and Tahjmin Dooley (Jasmine); and her siblings-in-law, Sallie Ray of Denmark, SC, Mary Ray of Queens, NY, Herbert Ray of Queens, NY, John Ray (Dorothy) of Lewisville, NC and Floyd Ray (Thelma) of Denmark, SC. She is also survived by 32 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Calvary Baptist Church (401 NE Woodland Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 21st 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
