He is survived by: his wife Verna Jean Cole Mitchell; his children, Dennis Leon Mitchell (Teresa) and Debra Lynn Cheap (Phil); his grandchildren, Stephanie Smith (Matt), Allison Tucker (Joseph), Drew Cheap (Jess) and Nolan Cheap (Megan); his great grandchildren, Ella, Sadie Smith, Titus, Case Tucker, Piper, Scotty Cheap and Malachi Cheap; and his sister-in-law Lois Cole. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel (3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103).
