He was predeceased by: his parents, Connie Ernest Gower and Della Ellis Hilliard; and his brother Ernest Earl. He is survived by: his wife Kay "Ma" Gower; his children, Traci Merritt (Mark) and Todd Gower (Christie); his grandchildren, Joshua Merritt (Lindsay) and Joely Merritt; his great grandchild Hunter Merritt; his sibling's children, Susan Permenter (Rob) and Jeffrey Gower (Nancy); and his sister-in-law Wanda LeCours.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church World Mission Fund.
