She was predeceased by: her parents, Francis Whitfield and Mariah Louise Drew Oakes; and her siblings, Louise Oakes Hines Smith, Martha Lee Oakes Dail and Francis Whitfield Oakes, Jr..
She is survived by: her husband Robert Leon Edwards; her sons, Robert Leon Edwards, Jr. (Leigh Barnhill Edwards) and Stewart Whitfield Edwards (Fleming Wells Edwards); her grandchildren, Robert Leon Edwards, III (New York), Jacob McCormick Edwards (Chapel Hill), Elizabeth Leigh Edwards (New York), Austin Oakes Edwards (Charlotte), Stewart Whitfield Edwards, Jr. (Atlanta), Grady Shuford Edwards (Greensboro) and Calvin Wells Edwards (Greensboro); her nieces, Ann Hines Lewis, Susan Dail Inman and Mary Elizabeth Dail Nunalee; her caregiver Kathryn; and her friend Dr. Bill Hough.
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Centenary United Methodist Church (646 W 5th St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). A reception will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Forsyth Country Club (3101 Country Club Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27104).
