He is survived by: his daughters, Virginia Mitchell "Jenny" Dilworth (Vincent Anderer) of Columbia, SC and Joanna Lee "Anna" Dilworth (Robert DeJesus); his grandson Lucas Hendrix DeJesus of Hastings; the mother of his children Jo Ann Waller Jessup of Yadkinville, NC; his close friend Betty Bumgardner of Winston-Salem, NC; and his siblings, Frank Spencer, Carlton Byrd, Mary Garber and Tom Wicker.
