He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Boone and Bertha Boone; his in-laws, Sam and Nola Gregory; and his brother Gene Boone.

He is survived by: his wife Rachel Gregory; his children, Samantha, Tom Kilpatrick of Raleigh, Rebecca and Rob Boone of Winston-Salem; and his grandchildren, Mollie Pierce Kilpatrick, Carter Chen Kilpatrick of Raleigh, Thomas Tillman Boone and Harriett "Hattie" Gregory Boone of Winston-Salem.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church's FROG ministry at Southside.
