He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar William and Lucille Key Merritt; and his siblings, Ronald, Donald Merritt, Virginia Nelson and Barbara Bullins.
He is survived by: his sons, Jeff Merritt (Jennifer) of Raleigh, Jerry Merritt of Winston-Salem and Bradley Merritt (Jessica) of Germanton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 14th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the J. C. Green Funeral Home (10301 NC-109, Winston-Salem, NC 27107). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Jc Green & Sons Funeral Home (10301 NC-109, Winston-Salem, NC 27107).
