He was predeceased by: his mother Clara Barnes Puryear; and his siblings, Robert, William, John Ed, Thomas, Carl, Earl, Mary P. Bailey, Betty P. Tillery and Joann P. Yarborough.
He is survived by: his father Robert L. Puryear; his wife Barbara Whiting Puryear; his sons, Samuel Jr. (LaRita) and Eric Sr. (Laura); his grandchildren, Antonio, Brooke, Cameron, Eric Jr., Sanaa, Drew and Christian; and his sister Linda Eaton (John). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Russell Funeral Home (822 Carl Russell Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (1751 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101). A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
