He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Sturgill and Mildred Sturgill; his brother Joseph Sturgill; his nephew Joe Sturgill; and his stepson Christian Stoltz.

He is survived by: his sons, John Sturgill (Connie) and Brian Sturgill; his stepdaughter Wendy Stoltz; his brother John Sturgill; his grandsons, Clayton and Harrison Sturgill; his stepgrandchildren, Nick Tantanella, Christian Stoltz and Delaney Stoltz; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Rocco and Sofia Tantanella; his nephew Charlie Sturgill; and his friend Linda Sturgill.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tanglewood Cemetery or Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
