He was predeceased by: his mother Maxine Gaines; and his brother Gordon Elkins. He is survived by: his father Carnell Gaines; his wife Dolores; his daughters, Angie Lambert (Andy) of Lexington, NC, Lori Byrd (Steven) of Raleigh, NC and Amber Gaines of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, Ava Byrd, Camille Lambert, Jack Snyder, Henry Byrd and Tyler Lambert; his siblings, Ann Clark (Ricky) of Siler City, NC and Ronnie Gaines (Merle); and his sister-in-law Betty Elkins of Siler City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
