He was predeceased by: his parents, William Armstrong and Virginia Armstrong; his former wife Maxine Armstrong; and his brothers, Jimmy Smith and John Armstrong.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda Armstrong; his son Ricky Armstrong; his stepchildren, Angie Howard, David Bottoms and Glenn Bottoms; his sisters, Sylvia Armstrong, Carolyn Burns and Gracy Alexander; and his granddaughters, Meghan Wilson (Hospice Nurse) and Kerri Hodges (Respiratory Therapist). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored their "Rufus" or "Papa".
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, well wishers make a donation to the Pleasant Hill Church of Pfafftown, NC.
