With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Hilda Vandiford Smith of Winterville, North Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 21, 2025 at the age of 83. She was predeceased by: her parents, Herbert Vandiford and Virginia "Belle" Vandiford; her husband Oscar "Sonny" Smith; her siblings, Lorena Bunn and Jesse Ray Vandiford; and her granddaughter Renee'Stancill.
She is survived by: her sons, Milando Stancill (Donna) of Winterville, NC, Terry Stancill (Denise) of York, SC and Greg Stancill (Cissie) of Elizabethtown, KY; her grandchildren, Jedediah Stancill (Samantha) of Pink Hill, NC, Kathy Price (Mike) of Greenville, NC, Brent Stancill (Fran) of Blackburg, SC, Shane Stancill (Melinda) of Elizabethtown, KY and Paige Updegraff (Adam) of Alvaton, KY; her great grandchildren, Lexi, Brayden, Memphis, Wyatt, Gabriella, Gracie, Haylie, Eli, Alex, Gabe, Chuck, Zander, Aiden, Samuel and Daniel; and her siblings, Richard Vandiford (Brenda) of Ayden, NC, Virginia and Charlie Vandiford (Judy) of Greenville, NC..
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Smith Funeral Service & Crematory (605 Country Club Dr, Greenville, NC 27834). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 26th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Smith Family Cemetery (300 Smith Cemetery Rd, Banner Elk, NC 28604).
