He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Keene and Mary Blaney Ewing; his brother John Keene Ewing; and his niece Deborah Ewing. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Peterson Ewing; his children, Sharon Ewing (Alan Ball), Carleen Giles, Mark Ewing (Angie) and James "Jamie" Ewing (Juan Vargas); his grandchildren, Leah Ewing, Matthew Ewing, Rachel Giles and Lauren Giles; his great grandchildren, Aliah and Landon; his sisters-in-law, Miriam Ewing and Kathleen Peterson; his nephews, Christopher Ewing and David Renan; and his niece Nina Huang.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his name to the Brassfield Volunteer Fire Department, 1680 N Carolina Highway 96, Franklinton, NC 27525 Attn: Greg Hackabay.
