Jean Onks Obituary
Jean Onks, 90, passed away on September 18, 2026, at Zebulon Rehabilitation Center in Zebulon, North Carolina. Jean was born on July 24, 1936, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late Ivan Burnette Onks and Mildred Owens Onks. Her family later relocated to the Louisburg and Franklinton area for her father's work in the textile industry. She attended Franklinton High School and was a member of.
As much as Jean enjoyed church, sports, bingo, and a little friendly competition, her greatest joy was her family. She loved her family deeply and especially cherished her grandchildren. Andrew, Caylee, and Gracie held a very special place in her heart and brought tremendous happiness to her life. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan Burnette Onks and Mildred Owens Onks; her brother, Jackie Wayne Onks; and her husband, Eddie Leon Goodwin.
She is survived by her son, Devin W. Sparks and wife Christine of Kittrell, North Carolina; and her beloved grandchildren, Andrew Sparks, Caylee Bertolette, and Gracie Sparks.
Jean lived her life with faith, strength, determination, and a little bit of stubbornness. She loved the Lord, loved her family, loved a good ballgame, and wasn't afraid to tell you exactly what she thought. Those who knew and loved Jean will remember not only the things she enjoyed, but the unmistakable personality she brought with her wherever she went.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 27th at Pocomoke Cowboy Church, located at 3516 W River Road in Franklinton with Rev. Spencer Strickland officiating.
