He was predeceased by : his parents, Johnnie Darin and Mabel Edwards Mayes; his former life partner Alice Williams Mayes; and his wife Cynthia Pearce Mayes. He is survived by : his sisters, Betty Sue Dean (Linwood) and Ann Horton; and also Tom.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, May 5th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Mayes Family Cemetery (952 Williams-White Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597).
