He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael "Mike" Sr. Nelson and Gladys Nelson (DeLong); and his nephew Keaton DeCoteau. He is survived by: his daughters, Savannah Poitra of Belcourt and Shelby Keplin of Mandan; his grandchildren, Dahlton Poitra Jr., Soren Poitra, Stormie Poitra, Tucker Keplin, KoDee Keplin and TayLani Keplin; and his siblings, Roberta DeCoteau (Wally) of Belcourt, Barbara Nelson (Nick Wilkie) of Belcourt, Michael Jr. Nelson (Cindy) of Belcourt, Debbie Simms (Mark) of Chester, VA, Peggy Johnson (Bruno) of Belcourt and Lisa Nelson of Belcourt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
