He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Gathman and Bernice Gathman (Zimmerman); his siblings, Frank (Virginia), Ted, George Gathman (Pat) and Kathy Mosser (Vergil); and his parents-in-law, Bill and Thelma DeBilt.

He is survived by: his wife Laurie DeBilt of Ann's Catholic Church; his children, Brad Gathman (Marisa) of Homer, AK, Bill Gathman (Bobbie) of Williston, ND, Amy Neshem (Keith) of Berthold, ND and Kara Peterson (Josy) of Apple Valley, MN; his grandchildren, Emily Borud (Keaton), Molly Gathman, Erika Neshem, Grant Gathman, Garrett Gathman, Mya Neshem, Charlie Peterson, Parker Neshem, Henry Peterson and Jack Peterson; his great grandchild Ellie Borud; his siblings, Jean Hennessy (Francis), Judy Schwehr (Bob), Ken Gathman (Ardyce), Jim Gathman (Teresa), Steve Gathman (Kim) and Mary Kurtz; and his in-laws, Pat Gathman, Linda Rittberger (John), Susan Finke (Roger), Mike DeBilt (Cindy), Julie Deaver (Rod), Jill Brown (Jeff), Bruce DeBilt (Netty) and Tim (Lavina). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
