He was predeceased by: his parents, Gloria Schmidt (Rust) and Melvin W. Schmidt; his grandparents, Charles, Emma Rust, Emil and Lydia Schmidt; and his parents-in-law, Bruce and Shirley Ledahl.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Ledahl; his daughters, Kelsi Schmidt (Ashley Jackman), Libby Zinke (Josh) and Jamie Schmidt; his grandchildren, Tommy DeCent and Adison Ronning; and his siblings, Tim Schmidt (Jan), David Schmidt (Mimi), Karen Schmidt and Randy Schmidt (Mandy).

In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcomed to be sent to Tunnel to Towers Foundation; Lord of Life Lutheran Church; or donor's choice.
