He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Mitzel and Delores Mitzel; his brothers-in-law, Roger Volk, Leroy Volk, Rodney Volk, Tim Volk, Kenny Volk, Allan Edwards and Joe Koble; and his niece Kari Koble.
He is survived by: his wife Jan (Volk); his children, Dustin Mitzel (Wendy) of Fargo and Kimberly Heidt (Chad) of Dickinson; his grandchildren, Zach, Max of Fargo, Taylor, Kingston and Charlotte of Dickinson; his brothers, Roger and Darrell; and his siblings-in-law, Joann Rosencrans (Ric), Marlene Oien (Steve), Paula Emly (Warren), Diane Koble, Kristi Kornmann (Ross) and Larry Volk. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Central Dakota Humane Society or Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue.
