He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Gartner and Mary Gartner (Bendish); his siblings, George and Rosemary; his nephew Paul; and his sister-in-law Doris.
He is survived by: his daughters, Tammy Schafer (Jason) and Kim Koenig (Jim); the mother of his children Kathy Heisler; his daughter McKenzie; his grandchildren, Brayden Koenig (Sofia), Aylssa Koenig, Myles Schafer and Owen Schafer; his brother Tony; and his sibling's children, Anissa Gartner, Lynette Shaw, Chad Gartner (Sue) and Loren Gartner.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church (1919 N 2nd St, Bismarck, ND 58501). A Mass was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Western North Dakota Honor Flight PO Box 265 Bismarck, ND 58502, charity/organization of the individuals' choice or simply honor him by spending time in nature.
