He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Schmidt (Richter) and Joseph G. Schmidt (Menoken); his wife Kathy; his siblings, Clarence, Melvin (Quirina) and Louella; and his sister-in-law LaVerne Schmidt.
He is survived by: his children, Nancy Schmidt Zander, Kurt Schmidt (Missy) and Scott Schmidt of Clearwater, FL; his grandchildren, Casey, Cole, Kensi, Kerrigan, Dylan and Teagan; his close friend Norma Sayler; his siblings, Julius Schmidt (Eileen Berger), Diane Grotewold (Keith) and LouAnn Tsujihara (Glen); and his siblings-in-law, Rosie Schmidt, Gerri Fix and Mike Cramer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 27th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Parkway Funeral Service (2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck, ND 58503). A rosary was held on Tuesday, May 27th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Ascension Catholic Church (1825 S 3rd St, Bismarck, ND 58504). A burial was held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery (1825 46th St, Mandan, ND 58554).
