He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Rehling and Louise Rehling (Flemmer); his brothers, David and Oscar Rehling; his siblings-in-law, Violet Rehling and Ewald Mann; and his grandson Branden Rehling.
He is survived by: his wife Bernice Rehling; his children, Nancy Eggert (Wayne), Bryan Rehling (Donna) of Eureka, CA, Cindi Bechtold (Jim), Steven Rehling of Bakersfield, CA and Shari Zeis (Greg); his grandchildren, Michelle Herrly (Ben), Mike Eggert, Marc Eggert (Sonya), Jasmine Huffman, Lonyx Landry, Jermey Bechtold, Jason Bechtold, Heather Julian (Doug), Jennifer Willis (James), Lexi Zeis and Mikayla Zeis; and his sister Olga Mann (Rehling). He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Walter's career in public service was marked by significant contributions to both Hebron and Dickinson, where he held the position of Mayor of Hebron from 1974 to 1975 and served as City Commissioner of Dickinson from 1988 to 1992.
