He was predeceased by : his parents, Joseph Nelson and Esther Nelson (Otteson); and his siblings, Oscar, Laverne, Marlyn and Doris Christenson.

He is survived by : his wife Karen Gravseth of Bottineau; his children, Diane Cote (Brian) of Fargo, Marc Nelson (Deb) of Bottineau and Steve Nelson (Donna) of Bottineau; his grandchildren, Angie Bakken (Mike) of Alexandria, MN, Jason Cote (Melonie) of Minneapolis, Travis Nelson (Jenna) of Bottineau, Christin Berger (Travis) of Rothsay, MN, Evan Nelson of Bottineau and Adam Nelson of Bottineau; his great grandchildren, Iziah, Grace, Levi Bakken, Ingrid, Lewis Cote, Sienna, Hailey, Kynlie, Braxtyn Nelson, Paitynn, Wyatt and Whitley Berger; and his sister-in-law Glenda Nelson of Nampa, ID.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 14th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Nero Funeral Home (402 Sinclair St, Bottineau, ND 58318). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 15th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church (701 Main St, Bottineau, ND 58318).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Bottineau County Veterans and the Lesje Lutheran Cemetery.
