He was predeceased by : his father Virgil Smeltzer; and his brother Shane Smeltzer. He is survived by : his mother Sharon Smeltzer Darling; his sons, Zachary Virgil Smeltzer and Jacob Micheal Smeltzer; and his wife Ila Smeltzer.

“Scott was such a good friend, for so long, that I'm at a loss for words. We met as roommates in the Air Force (Korea '85), and have been close ever since. Through marriages, divorces, children, and even thru the deaths of his brother and my wife, Scott was always there for me, and I for him. He's the brother I always wanted, and he will never be far from my heart. Rest In Peace brother, you've earned it.”
