He is survived by: his wife Jane; his son Paul Kunkel (Trish); his grandchildren, Beau (Heather), Jonathan and Genevieve; his son Dustan Thoemke (Jeanna); his grandchildren, Mariah Bigelow (Ryne) and Tanner Thoemke (Abby); his son Benjamin Kunkel (Megan); his grandchildren, Victoria and Clarence Dade; and his sister Rose Krush. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be used to support Veterans in the Palliative Care Program at the Fargo VA.
