He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hertel and Dorothy Hertel (Fick); his wife Sandra Hertel; and his daughter Chelsea McNair. He is survived by: his children, Angie Caron (Jason) of Bemidji, MN, Jeff Hertel of Roseville, MN, Jason Hertel (Eric Weiss) of St. Anthony, MN and Jessica Just (Jason) of Lakeville, MN; his grandchildren, Lucas, Jack, Logan, Lilly, Grace, Sawyer, Olivia Caron, Decker, Tatum Hertel, Sam, Max Just, Austin and Emme Schmidt; his siblings, Judi Hendrickson (Daryl), Don Hertel (Cheryl) and Dan Hertel; and the mother of his children Linda Massey.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Concordia College Memorial (901 8th St S, Moorhead, MN 56562). A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the same location.
