Robyn Wimmer wrote a sympathy message

“I first met David at Pat Scherling’s Halloween party in 1978. David was dressed as the Tooth Fairy — silver lame´ tutu, sparkle dust in his hair, slippers on his feet and tights covering his legs. His wand was a beautifully sculptured, very large tooth which he had made. I was delighted by the whimsy. Randy and I had moved to Fargo the year before and I was a fairly new Fargo resident. As I chatted with him, finding out he was a dentist, I decided that evening that because he had such a great sense of humor and wasn’t embarrassed to be seen as the Tooth Fairy, he was the dentist for me. I remember listing ‘the Tooth Fairy’ as my referral on the new patient form. At my first appointment, I told him I always had a lot of pain following visits to a dentist. He assured me that wouldn’t happen and then told me why: he gave shots very slowly. By doing so, it didn’t break blood vessels in the gums and that’s what really caused pain following a dental procedure. Before going to David, I had been an extremely anxious dental patient. With David, not so much — I could actually fall asleep in the chair and occasionally, I did. David never rushed me through; he answered all of my questions and he always explained what he was going to do before he started. He did the same for our sons Josh and Gabe who began seeing him as pre-schoolers. Randy opted to stay with a family dentist because he was downtown, therefore, more convenient for Randy. David understood. David was more than my dentist. He was also a friend. We shared pictures and stories about our families. He always asked what Josh and Gabe were doing, how they were and I appreciated that very much. He was gentle and caring and I’m heartbroken for him and his family and all of us who liked, loved and cared so much about David. Robyn Wimmer”
