She was predeceased by: her parents, George Charles and Mary Agnes Kaehn; her siblings, William, Jacqueline and Geraldine; and her son Michael Smith.
She is survived by: her children, Dan Smith (Paula) of Boquete, Panama, Teresa Houkom (Randy) of La Grange, KY, Sue Houkom of Fargo, Anne Gossett (Jon) of Fargo and Jessica Rice (Chad) of West Fargo; and her granddaughter Samantha Stanga. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to NDSU Agricultural Extension Program or the charity of your choice in Joan's memory, reflecting her generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
