He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Ruliffson and Margaret Ruliffson (Ranes); and his brothers, Paul (Mary) and Ralph. He is survived by: his wife Joan Marie Pauls; his children, Nancy Nelson (Joe Wavra), Barbara Erbstoesser (Mark), Loree Zuther (Jon) and Brian Ruliffson (Cheri); his grandchildren, Brent Nelson (Megan), Kyle Nelson, Lauren Nelson, Andrew Zuther, Paige Erbstoesser, McKenzie Zuther, Joseph Ruliffson and Benjamin Ruliffson; his great grandchildren, Ivy, Eva and Ana Nelson; and his siblings-in-law, Judy Ruliffson and Russell Pauls. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Joe was involved in both farm and social organizations within his community and made significant contributions to the agricultural field.
