He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Helmeke and Lavinia Helmeke (Zignego); his siblings, Isabelle, Harold, Loren, Waldo, Maynard, Lloyd and Lester; and his nieces, Vicki Helmeke and Beth Alm.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine Alm (Kay) of Cary, NC; his children, Michael Helmeke (Petra) of Vienna, VA, Valoree Eikinas of Cary, NC and Karla Horn (David) of Arnold, MD; his grandchildren, Victoria Eikinas of Cary, NC, Kim Horn, Parker Horn, Matthew Horn of Arnold, MD and Daniel Helmeke of Vienna, VA; and his niece Kay Hockett. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, May 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Boulger Funeral Home (123 10th St S, Fargo, ND 58103). A celebration of life was held on Friday, May 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. The military honors will be held on Saturday, May 10th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. James Cemetery.
