He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Smith and Lucille Smith (Scott); his wife Ange; his granddaughter Samantha Smith; his brothers, Marvin (Phyllis), Melvin and Milton (Elayne); and his siblings-in-law, E. Charles Hanson and Maggie Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Duane Smith (Linda) of Casselton, Karen Thompson (Mike) of Hillsboro, ND and Nancy Hovey (Doug) of Dent, MN; his grandchildren, Shannon White (Raymond), Heather Arechigo (Rick), Casey Thompson (Michelle Anderson), Jeremy Thompson (Mary Lammott), Doug Hovey Jr., Sara Kosobud (John) and Ondrea Routledge (Jeff); his siblings, Mavis Hanson of Fargo, Merlon Smith of Fargo, Mahlon Smith (Laurie) of Bowman, ND and Manard Smith (Judy) of San Diego, CA; and his sister-in-law Betty Minnehan of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
