He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Smallarz and Sadie Smallarz (Janish); his grandsons, Matt Holland, Alex St. Germaine and Brandon Huseth; and his brothers, Floyd Smallarz and Kenneth Smallarz.

He is survived by: his wife Lucille Borseth of Fargo, ND; and his children, Kevin Smallarz of Fargo, ND, Rhonda Holland (Chad) of West Fargo, ND, Debbie Larson (John) of Boulder, MT and Roberta Winge (Brandon) of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
