He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth W. Buchholz and Inez Buchholz-Woell (Miller); his former wife Kim Buchholz; his stepfather John Woell; his sister Jean Wilcox; and his brother-in-law Greg Wilcox.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Buchholz; his children, Scotty Buchholz (Bridget), Katie Buchholz (Eric Pickle) and Jay Buchholz (Bergen Mogck); his stepchildren, Stefanie Rath (Tim), Stacey Southard (Todd) and Michael Wolpe (Krista Michaelson); his stepgrandchildren, Abigail Rath, Claire and Emma Southard; his niece Serenity; and his siblings, Gerald Buchholz, JoAnn Glarum, Dennis Buchholz, Patricia Freiborg and Cynthia Althoff.
