He was predeceased by: his wife Lucille Norma Helland; his son Gordon; his parents, Kenneth and Margaret; and his brothers, Malcolm Keith, Harvey and Robert.
He is survived by: his children, Terri Nelson (Cliff) of Pine City, MN, Stephen Young (Paivi) of Moorhead, MN, Gregory Young (Tammy) of Grafton and Tracy Young of Gilbert, AZ.; his grandchildren, Michael Nelson (Dawn), Ryan Nelson (Amy), Kristin Ferreira (John), Eeva Wendorf (Adam), Heidi Worker (Dewey), Ashley Vannatter (David) and Jordan Young; his great grandchildren, Jacob, April, Liam Nelson, Riley, Berkley Ferreira, Catherine Greenley, Madeline Greenley, Owen Wendorf, Oliver Worker, Christian Young, Collin and Connor Vannatter; and his sister Margaret Monsebroten.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 25th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, September 26th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A prayer was held on Thursday, September 25th 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home (154 W 12th St, Grafton, ND 58237). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Federated Church (702 Griggs Ave, Grafton, ND 58237). He embraced technology at the start of the pandemic, using video calls, social media, and woodworking videos to stay connected and inspired.
Memorials are preferred to the Grafton Federated Church or the Unity Medical Center.
