He was predeceased by: his parents, Willis John Nyhlen and Evelyn Nyhlen (Ellingboe); his sister Jane Segaar; his stepfather Clarence Baalson; his brother-in-law Daryl Somogyi; and his nephews, Allen and Brian Johnson.

He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Somogyi; his children, Judith Livingston (Tyler) of North St and Robert Nyhlen (Nicole) of Moorhead, MN; his grandson Felix Livingston of Chicago, IL; his children, Zander Livingston, Kylie, Kris and Christian Nyhlen of Moorhead, MN; his sister Evonne Strand (Ted) of Peachtree City, GA; and his siblings-in-law, Don Segaar of Brooten, MN and Debbie Somogyi of Peoria, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Sharon Lutheran Church (1720 S 20th St, Grand Forks, ND 58201). A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
