He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Nielsen and Doris Nielsen; and his brother Larry Nielsen. He is survived by: his wife RuthAnn Cartwright; his children, Tanja Brown (Bob) of Crosby, ND, Ryan Nielsen (Jess) of Hillsboro, ND and Sarah Nielsen of Grand Forks, ND.; his grandchildren, Brady Brown, Annie and Amy Nielsen of Hillsboro, ND.; and his sisters, Jeannine Dolgin of Walnut Creek, CA, Kaye Hanson (Bob) of Dublin, OH and Bette Silva of Jamestown, ND.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Altru Cancer Care Center, Grand Forks, ND.
