He was predeceased by: his parent Minerva Adkins (Belcher); his aunt Mamie; his uncle John L. Belcher; his adoptive parents, Mamie Belcher and John L. Belcher; his stepfather Clovis Adkins; and his siblings, Frances Williamson and Harold Adkins.

He is survived by: his wife Ida; his children, Mary Beth Winter (John) of Grand Forks, Michael Belcher (Jane) of Fargo, Stephen Belcher of Grand Forks and David Belcher (Barb) of Braselton, GA; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher (Morgan), Joshua Winter (Megan), Jacob (Allisa), Lexi Belcher, Forest Elstrom (Emily) and Rowan Sillerud (Dillan); his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Ethan), Logan, Zaiden, Noah and Madi; and his siblings, Sarah Smith, Merlene Wylie and Bernie Adkins. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
