He was predeceased by: his parents, Solveig Hvinden (Sogge) and Oscar Hvinden; his brother Douglas Hvinden; his sister-in-law Nancy K. Hvinden; and his father-in-law Ernest Borgeson.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy E. Hvinden; his children, Brian Hvinden and Angela; his son-in-law Ben Blais; his grandchildren, Landon and Jordon; his mother-in-law Beulah Borgeson; and his siblings, Gerald Hvinden, Larry Hvinden (Ginny), Ardyce Ellingson (Byron), Robert Hvinden (Joann), Dan Hvinden and David Hvinden (Denise).
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Marlan L. Hvinden Scholarship endowment which they have established at the University of North Dakota in his memory.
