With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Steven J. Phelps of Grand Forks, North Dakota, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Steven left this world on September 14, 2025 at the age of 82, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, George Edward Phelps, Sr. and Cora Elizabeth Phelps (McIntyre); his son Daniel Phelps; his stepson Jay Byzewski; and his siblings, George Phelps Jr., Ron Phelps, Meridy Erlenborn, Theresa Brown, Marty Lynch and Karen Phelps.
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Byzewski of Grand Forks; his daughters, Robynn Ogawa (Chris) of Grand Forks, ND and Sherry Tupa (Jerry) of Champlin, MN; his stepsons, Mike Byzewski (Rob) of Oarland Park, IL and Tad Byzewski of Grafton, ND; his grandchildren, Danika Ogawa, Emily Tupa, Alex Tupa, Mollie Byzewski and Karlie Byzewski; and his brothers, Frank Phelps of Grand Forks, ND and Monty Phelps of Zebulon, NC. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 20th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Amundson Funeral and Cremation Service (2975 S 42nd St, Grand Forks, ND 58201).
It was Sharon's kind spirit and compassionate care that allowed Steve to remain at home through the end of his long Alzheimer's journey.
