He was predeceased by: his parents, John Nilsen and Leone Nilsen (Michalski); his wife Janice Marie Anderson; his son David; and his siblings-in-law, Duane Plecity, Jerome Ritter, Howard Storhoff, Helen Ann Storhoff and Lois Ritter.
He is survived by: his children, Timothy Nilsen (Denise) of New Salem, ND and Brenda Smargiassi (Tom) of Pearl City, IL; his grandchildren, Danyal Kafer (Lucas), Heidi Avelsgard (Tanner), Monte Nilsen (LaiKyn), John Nilsen (Jenna), Bryant Smargiassi, Braden Smargiassi and Brock Smargiassi; and his sisters, Janice Plecity and Barbara Roberts (Curtis). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Faith Lutheran Church (301 Bridge Ave, Hannaford, ND 58448). A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
