He was predeceased by: his parents, Gussa Hoots and Glee Hoots (McElvain); his son-in-law Mike McCleary; his siblings, Elden Hoots and Beverly Zweigle; his brother-in-law Barton Sayler; and his grandson Aric Hoots.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Lawhead; his children, Kent Hoots of Edgeley, Rick Hoots (Gayle) of Beulah, Jeff Hoots (Lisa) of Killdeer and Lois Fay McCleary of Mannington, WV; his stepchildren, Ray Stroh, Jason Hutchinson, Grace Ford and Jolene Stroh; his sisters, Arlys Schmidt (Loren) of Fessenden and Cheryl Sayler of Bismarck; and his sister-in-law Glenda Hoots. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
