He was predeceased by : his parents, Wilfred Chaput and Imelda Chaput (Stevens); his siblings, Beverly Otto and Gerald; and his parents-in-law, Ernest and Frances Lien.

He is survived by : his wife Margaret Lien of Langdon; his children, Roger Chaput (Jenny) of Langdon, Marilyn Goodman (Brian) of Palmer, AK, Laurie Westling (Lee) of Grand Forks, ND, Janet Magnuson (Jeremy) of Hillsboro, ND and Jolyn Frederick (James) of Richardton, ND; his grandchildren, Aiden, Jordan, Jonathan, Justin, Eli, Hanna, Paige and Crystal; his stepgrandchildren, Kassondra and Jacob; and his brother-in-law Duane Otto of Langdon.

He was very involved at St. Alphonsus Church and was a past member of the St. Alphonsus School Foundation board.
