He was predeceased by : his parents, Ralph Thurston and Alpha Thurston (Hollen); and his siblings, Wayne Cooper and Lucille George. He is survived by : his wife Joyce Mayou; his children, Lori Johnson, Gene Thurston (Jolynn) and Michelle Barber (Shane); his grandchildren, Danielle Wixo (Taylor), Jake Thurston (Brittany), Jenna Thurston, Griffin Thurston, Alissa Barber and Macee Barber; his great grandchildren, Knox, Logan, Abby and Alora; and his siblings, Andrew Thurston and Marcy Aas.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 23rd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Our Savior Lutheran Church (3705 11th St SW, Minot, ND 58701).
