He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Thurston and Alpha Thurston; and his siblings, Allan "Big Al" Thurston, Marcy Aas, Wayne Cooper and Lucille George.

He is survived by: his sons, Jeff Pool (Deb) and Craig Pool (Marcia); his grandchildren, Colton Pool (Meaghan), Alex Pool, Max Pool (Crystal), Tyler Pool (Charleen), Justin Pool (Jennifer) and Jennifer Brandt (Jason); his great grandchildren, Eban, Liam, Emerson, Madison, McKenna and Lennox; his great great grandchild Mateo; his stepchildren, Kim Erdmann (Bill) and Kory Hofer (CoCo); and his siblings-in-law, Joyce Thurston, Joanne Rauh, Judy Miller (Curt), Janet Whittet (Hank), Shirley Miller and Les Forland (Wendy). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Family Funeral Home (304 Main St S, Minot, ND 58701).

Memorials are preferred to Ward County Historical Society.
