He was predeceased by: his parents, William 'Bill' and Florence Sutter (Johnson); his brother Wayne Sutter; his father-in-law Max Hemphill; his brother-in-law Mike Hemphill; and his nephew Brian Hemphill.

He is survived by: his wife Kate Hemphill of Washburn, ND; and his children, Karl Sutter (Angie Jares), Sarah Feist (Mark) and Hazen. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, and cousins.

A private family service will be held at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot due to COVID restrictions.
