He was predeceased by : his parents, John Schmidt and Amelia Schmidt; his wife Marion Finley; his siblings, Evelyn Ankrum, Robert Schmidt, Esther Simon, James Schmidt and JoAnn Harrison; and his children-in-law, Mark Nelson and Louise Schmidt.
He is survived by : his children, Paul Schmidt (Megan) of Washington, Mary Peterson (Gary) of Jamestown, ND, Lori Nelson of Northwood, ND, Corey Schmidt (Diana) of Hawaii, David Schmidt (Vicki) of Tennessee and Jon Schmidt (Lori) of Colorado; and his siblings, Loren (Arlysis), Margaret Okland (Lloyd), Allen Schmidt (Barbara), Kathy Huennekens (Larry), Lynn Schmidt (Nancy), Amy Lamm (Ron) and Beatty Stickland. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
