It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Velma Mae Smith of Portal, North Dakota, who passed away on November 30, 2025, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey Haxton and Elsie Haxton of Woburn, ND.; her husband George Smith; her children, Linda Dahl and Tom Smith; her grandson Troy Smith; and her siblings, Ormand Haxton, Kenny Haxton, Harvey Haxton, Anna May Haxton, Marcella Bergstreser, Doris Cron, Helen Enget, RuthAnn Hatch and Janice LaCoe.
She is survived by: her son William Smith (Lavinia); her grandchildren, Cindy Wilson (Dave), Brady Smith, Brian Smith, Christie Bagley (Luke) and Melody Smith; and her great grandchildren, Sarah Wilson, Dirk Wilson, Audrey Smith, Natalie Smith, Layne Bagley, Liam Bagley, Lincoln Bagley and Brennan Smith (Elizabeth).
