He was predeceased by: his parents, John Poitra and Virginia Poitra (Morin); his wife Shirley Ann; his sisters, Corrine Parisien (Philip) and Helen Parisien (Melvin); his brothers-in-law, Oliver Parisien and Robert Herdt; and his grandchildren, Reed Poitra Jr. and Gabrielle McKenzie.
He is survived by: his children, Eileen McKinley (Poncho) of Fayetteville, NC, Tammie Poitra (Reed) of Burnsville, MN, John Poitra (Renee) of Belle Plaine, MN, Corey Poitra (Stacey) of St. John, ND, Shonel McCloud (Tim) of Belcourt, ND, Tracy Schroeder (Peno) of St. John, ND and Edward Lavallie of Belcourt; his sister Della Herdt; and his brothers-in-law, George Bercier and Jerry Bercier (Cheryl). He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Ann's Catholic Church (1115 Louis Riel Dr, Belcourt, ND 58316). A rosary was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the same location. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
