He was predeceased by : his parents, Olive Oetna (Saindon) and Napoleon Joseph Barland; his wife Bernice Amelia Bennett; his daughter Mary Katheryn; and his siblings, Raymond, Delmar, Evelyn, Dorothy, Bea, Jeanette, Rosamond and Victorine.

He is survived by : his children, Joseph Barland of Hazen and Janice "JB"; his brother Jerome Barland (Donna) of Brookings, OR; his grandchildren, Rachel Brandle, Jeremy Brandle, Danielle Stadick (Brad Bickmore), Jessica Stadick-Feist (Jesse) and Nicole Rivinius (Scott); and his great grandchildren, Kailey and Madden. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
